Petrified Forest Adventure

A brilliant sunset tour on another world

This is one of the most surreal views you will ever see. You will feel as though you are walking on another planet when you visit one of Arizona’s longest best kept secrets. During this tour, we will discuss the many interesting theories of how the wood came to be petrified, as well as the amazing exposed strata of the painted desert known as the Chinle Formation (which is only exposed in this region in Arizona). We will also go over the rich native history in the area, as we walk amongst the ancient Hopi and Navajo lands, and in their ancient ruins.

We start our day in Sedona but can pick up along the way to the park, like Flagstaff, or Winslow, or Holbrook! (price is discounted for Winslow or Holbrook, as our office is based further in Sedona, if starting the tour closer to the park.)

We offer an extended ULTIMATE tour option, it includes a visit to Americas first National Monument and heritage site. Before visiting the Petrified Forest National Park, we adventure through Walnut Canyon National Monument (another fantastic view to take in!) which is full of some of the best preserved Native American cliff dwellings in the America. We will explore the dwellings alongside the canyon the same way they did. This includes SEVERAL FLIGHTS OF STAIRS we have to navigate (10 SETS IN TOTAL). We give ourselves about an 1.5-2 hours to walk down the canyon.

Next on the drive is the town of Holbrook, where Route 66 is still alive and well! This is where we will take a 1 hour lunch at the iconic 50’s themed dinners. Afterwards is a short drive to the South gate of the park. The length of the tour is 9-11 hours from start to finish, with 3-4 hours of adventuring within the Petrified Forest National Park. With 2.5 hours of travel between Sedona and the Park.

We offer pick up anywhere in Sedona, Village of Oak Creek, Flagstaff or along the way to the park, or a local pick up option at our office in west Sedona.
